About The Position

As the Director of Information Technology, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight, management, and continuous improvement of the organization’s IT environment. This role partners closely with a managed IT services provider while directly overseeing external development resources supporting the organization’s proprietary application. The Director of IT ensures the security, reliability, and compliance of all systems and leads the development and enforcement of IT policies, procedures, and governance aligned with healthcare regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive IT leadership experience with a minimum of 5 years at healthcare services or healthcare technology organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing PHI and HIPAA security requirements in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience overseeing application development resources, including third-party or outsourced developers.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience supporting applications, reporting, data analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of IT governance, security frameworks, risk management, and compliance.
  • Experience working with managed IT service providers and vendor management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Data engineering experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with additional programming or scripting languages a plus, including: C#.net, Python, JavaScript etc.
  • Familiarity with and experience working with applications and organizations running in Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
  • Experience completing SOC 2 Type II, HITRUST, CIS Controls or similar audits a plus.

Responsibilities

  • IT Strategy and Governance: Maintain and develop IT policies, procedures, standards, and governance frameworks aligned with organizational goals and healthcare regulatory requirements. Provide strategic guidance on technology initiatives, system enhancements, and long-term IT planning.
  • IT Infrastructure & Managed IT Provider Oversight: Serve as the primary point of contact for the organization’s managed IT services provider. Provide high-level oversight of IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, cloud platforms, databases, and end-user technologies, while leveraging the managed IT provider for day-to-day execution. Ensure infrastructure, network, and system operations meet availability, security, and performance expectations.
  • Application Development & Data Oversight: Manage and coordinate offshore development resources supporting the organization’s proprietary application. Oversee application roadmap planning, enhancements, maintenance, and integrations. Utilize SQL to support application oversight, data validation, reporting, troubleshooting, and performance analysis. Ensure development practices align with security, compliance, documentation, and quality standards.
  • Security, Risk, and Compliance (HIPAA / PHI): Ensure compliance with HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules and other applicable healthcare regulations. Oversee safeguards for PHI, including access controls, monitoring, incident response, and risk assessments. Partner with operational teams to address security risks and remediation plans.
  • Vendor, Data, and Resource Management: Manage relationships with technology vendors, consultants, and development partners. Oversee contracts, budgets, and performance related to IT services, development resources, and data platforms.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of systems, policies, procedures, data structures, and security controls.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with finance, operations, compliance, and clinical/healthcare stakeholders to align technology and data solutions with business needs. Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on technology, data, and security-related risks and opportunities.
  • Third-Party Application Administration: Partner with the organization’s internal users of third-party software to support identified workflow improvement and standardization opportunities.
