About The Position

Reporting directly to the SVP of Platform Engineering, the Director of IT Platforms is responsible for leading the development of platforms (Cloud, DevSecOps, Testing...) to support the broader technology organization at Mapfre. They understand the needs of the teams, help create a compelling product vision, and lead development teams through their execution on that vision. They also ensure our platforms are properly supported, as critically systems that they are. Through this work and beyond, the Director of IT Platforms plays a key role in setting the overall technical direction for our organization and is a key advisor to Mapfre's CIO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related academic field.
  • 10 or more years of experience in corporate IT roles with solid, demonstrable hands-on experience in software engineering and in applying and managing large IT operations using the technologies and methodologies mentioned above.
  • Very solid technical skills and hands-on approach to work.
  • Plans, allocates the activities of project teams.
  • Able to build influence to lead teams that are not under hierarchical supervision.
  • Provides training and guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Conveys enthusiasm, builds trust and exercises empathy to understand business needs.
  • Very good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Identifies complex problems and develops solutions to them which require the regular use of innovation.
  • Ensures that solutions are effective in meeting organizational objectives.
  • Questions problem definition to address underlying issues.
  • Proven technical experience on software engineering and systems development using modern architectures, agile methodologies and advanced DevOps and automation tools
  • Proven experience in supporting complex, mission-critical IT systems in production.
  • Proven experience in Cloud technologies, preferably AWS, and hybrid architectures.
  • Knowledgeable on current AI developments, especially as they can be applied to our Platforms and SDLC.
  • Knowledgeable on information security best practices.
  • Passionate about technology and hands-on oriented towards work
  • Results and data oriented: proven analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to excel in fostering collaboration with different teams.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the IT Management team and in collaboration with the other managers, contribute to and lead projects and activities defined to transform the way the Mapfre USA IT team operates, specifically in the areas of Cloud, DevSecOps and Testing Automation.
  • Establish a close working relationship with all IT teams providing technical guidance to assist in decision making.
  • Advocate for company policies, methodologies, team standards, and technical approaches in place, and contribute to their evolution.
  • Participate in the creation of project plans, estimates, schedules and status reports for projects and activities in the area of responsibility.
  • Participate in the cost analysis/justification, written recommendation or presentation of new initiatives to senior management. Take ownership for the execution of quality work within budget.
  • Ensure that the technical approach effectively meets business needs.
  • Contribute to process improvement within the IT function.
  • Identify and propose new technologies as solutions to business needs
  • Promote adoption and provide consultation to the rest of the IT team on cloud architectures and services, DevSecOps, testing and automation.
  • Move team objectives and project forward through the employment of influence skills.
  • Provide leadership to peers inspiring a sense of team work, unity and alignment with Mapfre values.
  • Promote an environment in which teammates can work closely and effectively.
  • Remain current with new technology and industry Best Practices through training, networking, and personal initiative.
  • Participate in the integration of new technologies/solutions.
  • Contribute to process improvement and standards activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing training of others, acting as a resource for information on his field, or through the presentation of technical sessions.
