About The Position

Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church, located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing. The Director - Investments will work with the Head of Risk to analyze risk across the portfolio and within individual asset classes. This individual will be responsible for monitoring and reviewing overall portfolio asset allocation, hedges, and liquidity management, providing analysis and reports. This role will also contribute to CPG’s Operational Due Diligence (“ODD”) program, focusing on new and existing external investment managers across multiple asset classes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

Requirements

  • Understanding of and curiosity about risk management, asset allocation, and capital markets
  • Ability to analyze and present results in charts and tables
  • Familiarity with calculating investment returns and statistics
  • Strong quantitative aptitude and knowledge
  • Ability to reach conclusions
  • Close attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills (Excel, Word)
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to recommend and implement process improvements
  • BA/BS required, in economics/finance preferred
  • 7+ yrs investment related experience demonstrating analytical aptitude

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of derivatives and Bloomberg desired
  • Masters in finance, MBA, CFA, or CAIA designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with various risk systems to understand total portfolio risk and asset class risk.
  • Create useful risk reports to be shared with the CIO and asset class teams to provide them with a better understanding of risk across the portfolio and within asset classes.
  • Perform stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Use capital market assumptions to project portfolio returns and volatility.
  • Monitor markets, current positions, and trades.
  • Interact with overlay manager and custodian for over $4 billion in gross derivatives exposure.
  • Monitor liquidity through monthly sources and uses framework and assist with annual liquidity stress test.
  • Prepare Operational Due Diligence (ODD) evaluations and present considerations/conclusions at Investment Committee meetings. Attend ODD meetings with consultants, prospective managers, and Investments Group as needed.
  • Review recommended trading and monitoring for overall strategic and tactical asset allocation for the portfolio.
  • Review and monitor overall trading for the following strategies:
  • Portable Alpha Strategies
  • Fixed income duration
  • Currency hedges
  • Related tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.
