What You Can Expect In This Role Monitor new accounting guidance applicable to all types of investments. Research, identify and communicate potential impacts to the organization; lead or participate in any required implementation. Interpret, apply and document accounting guidance applicable to investment transactions. What You'll Do In This Role • Perform technical accounting research and provide interpretation of ambiguous and complex accounting literature to address technical accounting questions. • Monitor new Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting standards and regulatory developments, and collaborate with business partners to determine the potential impact to the organization; advocate for the Company through participation in industry groups. • Effectively communicate accounting policies, positions and new guidance so that business partners with different levels of expertise can understand relevant implications. • Draft new accounting policies and position papers relevant to the Company’s capital markets activities and investment transactions. • Own and maintain existing accounting and valuation policies covering all types of investments. • Gain proficiency in investment accounting system and investment accounting processes to assist Investment Accounting in implementing solutions and applying changes that result from new accounting guidance or unique transactions. • Work with external auditors on accounting policies, implementation of new guidance and accounting for complex or unique transactions. • Partner with Sammons Financial Group Asset Management (SFGAM) and external investment managers to understand and structure new investment strategies and to ensure proper accounting, reporting and capital treatment. • Review investment related deal documents and legal agreements for accounting and reporting implications and document considerations and conclusions. • Provide accounting policy and reporting expertise in identifying and drafting financial statement disclosures regarding new guidance or new transactions. • Drive and reinforce commitment to internal controls processes such as those under Model Audit Rule and Record Information Management. • Commitment to embrace Sammons Financial Group Companies shared values (Accountability, Connection, Openness, Respect and Integrity). • As stated within the Company Attendance and Punctuality policy, regular attendance is required and expected in order to meet the business service levels and workflow demands. • Participate in other initiatives and/or projects as necessary.
