About The Position

The Director, Insurance and Risk Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies to protect the organization’s assets, employees, and operations from potential risks. This role ensures effective insurance coverage that meets the needs of our current business practices in the most cost-efficient way possible, risk mitigation, compliance with regulatory requirements, and proactive management of enterprise-wide risk exposures. Reporting directly to SVP, Finance, The Director, Insurance and Risk Management will regularly collaborate with key stakeholders from Finance, Legal, HR, Safety/Security, and Transportation, and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, balancing risk with business objectives. InnovAge is dedicated to empowering seniors to live independently, allowing them to age in their own homes and communities safely. InnovAge offers an alternative to nursing homes through its Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), which provides enrolled seniors with customized healthcare and social support at PACE Adult Day Health Centers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or CRM strongly desired.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in insurance, risk management, or corporate compliance.
  • Proven leadership experience managing enterprise risk programs and insurance portfolios.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence senior leadership and drive organizational change.

Responsibilities

  • Risk Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and lead the enterprise risk management framework
  • Identify, assess, and prioritize risks across all areas of the organization, including operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks
  • Develop and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) to measure risk exposure, identify emerging risks, inform decision-making, and work with teams throughout the organization to improve performance
  • Advise executive leadership and the board on emerging risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Implement risk transfer strategies, including but not limited to, contract controls
  • Insurance Program Management
  • Oversee analysis, design, procurement, negotiation, and renewal of insurance policies
  • Ensure adequate coverage and cost-effective risk transfer solutions.
  • Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, and third-party providers ensuring seamless collaboration and communication
  • Act as primary point of contact related to all insurance programs on a day-to-day basis, including tracking performance, optimizing claims outcomes, and handling complex issues as appropriate
  • Recommend any alternative insurance structures, coverage or retention levels based on the evolving insurance market and the company’s trajectory
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific risk management regulations.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting for audits, claims, and regulatory reviews.
  • Claims & Incident Management
  • Direct the handling of insurance claims and incident investigations.
  • Collaborate with legal, HR, and operations teams to resolve disputes and minimize losses, including costs associated with claims litigation
  • Collaborate with Auto Claims Manager, National Director of Transportation and others on the company’s efforts to manage auto risk
  • Collaborate with Director, HR Benefits and others on the company’s efforts to manage risk associated with employee injuries and workers' compensation claims
  • Work with finance to develop IBNR reserves
  • Risk Culture & Training
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness across the organization.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on risk management practices and insurance policies.
  • Ensure the company has compliance safety, health and environmental policies and procedures and enhance as needed to minimize risk
  • Lead the development and implementation of a strategy to deliver required/mandatory training to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws
