The Director, Human Resources Business Partner serves as the HR leader for Holman’s Retail Automotive business in North Carolina. This role partners closely with senior leaders to align people strategy with business priorities—ensuring leaders have the talent, capabilities, and culture needed to win. You will act as a trusted advisor, translate business strategy into people solutions, and lead an HR team that delivers impact across talent, performance, and employee experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (or equivalent operational leadership experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, organizational development, performance management, and HR policy.
  • Advanced understanding of employment law.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and relationship‑building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in HR or a related field.
  • SPHR or SHRM‑SCP certification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting complex, multi‑site operations with multiple reporting layers.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic HR Leadership Partner with business leaders as a strategic advisor, providing insight on organizational design, talent strategy, leadership effectiveness, and employee engagement.
  • Translate business goals into HR strategies and operational plans in partnership with Corporate HR and Centers of Excellence (COEs).
  • Assess and evolve HR practices to ensure alignment with company strategy, values, and legal standards.
  • HR Operations & Employee Relations Oversee all employee relations activities, providing counsel on complex and sensitive matters at all levels.
  • Coach leaders on employment law, company policy, and effective people management to mitigate risk and maintain a positive employee climate.
  • Monitor workforce sentiment and proactively address trends or concerns.
  • Collaboration with HR Centers of Expertise Leverage expertise from Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Total Rewards, Talent Management, and HR Technology & Analytics to deliver effective, integrated solutions.
  • Partner with internal and external legal counsel on employment‑related matters.
  • People Leadership Lead, develop, and mentor HR team members within the business unit.
  • Elevate HR capability by coaching leaders and managers on performance management, development, and feedback.
  • Foster a high‑performing, inclusive HR team culture.
  • Culture & Values Serve as a visible ambassador of Holman’s values in all interactions with employees, candidates, and external partners.
  • Help strengthen Holman’s reputation as an employer of choice.
