The Director, HR role will be accountable for HRBP leadership and customer support to Nationwide's P&C Commercial and E&S/S Claims, Ops, Underwriting Performance, and National Partners. As an HR Director, you will provide support to one or more business units, serving as a strategic partner on various people, organization and talent priorities. You’ll be uniquely positioned to develop a deep understanding of the business, partner closely with leaders, and provide strategic advising on complex HR initiatives. You’ll work collaboratively and form relationships with your team, across HR and business functions, enabling you to be an informed and effective leader while having an opportunity to learn, use and grow a variety of skills, including strategic thought leadership, innovation, project management, analysis, organizational change and leader and associate development.

Requirements

  • Education: Undergraduate studies in human resources, business administration or related field preferred. Some experience leading people preferred.
  • Experience: Ten or more years of diverse HR experience. Generally, has in-depth experience in one or more HR technical areas. Experience managing a team.
  • Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrable knowledge of planning strategy, organizational development, HR practices, performance management, change management, associate relations, legal compliance, recruiting and one or more HR specialties. Very strong interpersonal, communication, collaborating, advising and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead project teams, set work priorities, analyze performance and retention issues analyze workforce metrics and data, and make recommendations and implement solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • License/Certification/Designation: Professional human resources designation preferred or interest in furthering HR knowledge and expertise by pursuing certification.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
  • Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Responsibilities

  • Directs a team of HR professionals, serving as a mentor, coach, and advisor.
  • Supports HR, senior business leaders and associates in developing and executing key programs and initiatives.
  • Advises, influences and confers on people and talent strategies to drive business success.
  • Connects with our Centers of Expertise to develop and/or deliver strategic HR initiatives that include: organizational planning, talent management, associate relations, organizational design, compensation, culture, diversity, executive development, and performance management to provide creative strategies and solutions for the business.
  • Supports senior leadership teams on business and associate matters.
  • Understands the goals and strategies of the business and develops strategic and tactical HR plans to meet or exceed business goals.
  • Leads and serves as advisor and coach on initiatives to successfully use HR processes and resources to achieve high performance, exceed strategic objectives and adapt to and manage organizational and business changes.
  • Proactively partners with our Recruitment team to develop successful recruiting strategies and plans of new associates.
  • Serves on both HR and business unit committees, including developing and leading strategies, initiatives, and special projects.
  • Adheres to or develops new standard methodologies.
  • Analyzes data and trends and recommends, develops, and delivers on plans to improve associate experiences, including retention, engagement, innovation, and culture.
  • Supports compliance of all federal, state and local regulations, and safeguards the security and integrity of data including personal and confidential information.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
