Learn more at https://www.jnj.com Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Director of Technology, Strategy and Innovation within the Global Technical Operations (GTO) organization supporting the Ethicon Wound Closure Healing (WCH) platform. In this role, you will establish and scale best‑in‑class manufacturing processes through technology-led innovation. This role will define and deliver manufacturing technology strategy — spanning automation, digital transformation, advanced analytics, and Industry 4.0 — and will provide strategic leadership and governance for engineering teams across the manufacturing network. You will be a key member of the Wound Closure Global Technical Operations leadership team, contributing to the strategic direction and technical excellence of the MedTech Surgery manufacturing network. The successful candidate will drive process standardization, measurable operational improvements, and strategic partnerships with industry and academic institutions.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent University degree is required; focused degree in Engineering or a related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (medical device, biopharmaceutical, or pharmaceutical), with experience in a technical leadership role that includes people management responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards (FDA, ISO) related to medical devices is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in program management, demonstrating proficiency in advanced project management tools, methodologies, and strategic execution.
  • Exceptional leadership, strategic communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, coupled with a shown approach to driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the medical device supply chain, operations, manufacturing, and quality assurance within the surgery sector.
  • Certifications such as APICS, ASQ, Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive manufacturing technology roadmap that translates business needs into prioritized technology investments and delivery plans for automation, digital transformation, sophisticated analytics, and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
  • Provide strategic direction and comprehensive oversight of engineering teams responsible for the design, development, and testing of manufacturing technologies, ensuring alignment with best -in-class industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.
  • Establish technology standards, development governance frameworks, and operating models that ensure robust and scalable implementations across sites.
  • Establish pilot programs and proof‑of‑concepts to rapidly evaluate new technologies and accelerate adoption where value is shown.
  • Drive manufacturing process standardization and technology solutions to increase reliability, reduce variability, and improve operational predictability across our manufacturing network.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to engineering teams across the network, fostering professional development, teamwork, and a high-performance culture.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, quality, regulatory, EHS, and manufacturing operations to ensure integrated solutions that optimize throughput, space utilization, safety, and compliance.
  • Define, track, and report important metrics (e.g., equipment uptime, cycle time, yield, cost per unit, time to deploy) and use data-driven insights to prioritize investments, quantify value, and communicate program status to senior leadership.
  • Establish mechanisms for continuous improvement, lessons learned, and scalable deployment playbooks to accelerate time to value across sites.
  • Represent the organization in industry and academic collaborations to bring external innovation into the business and position the company as a leader in manufacturing technology.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting the medical device sector.
  • Provide strategic updates and insights to executive management and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of progress, challenges, and key initiatives.
  • Responsible for making significant hiring and budgetary recommendations and decisions, conducting performance reviews, and planning the work of others.
