The NHMLAC is seeking a Director, Grants & Sponsored Programs for our Research and Collections department. The Director, Grants & Sponsored Programs position serves a variety of needs and objectives relating to R&C and related academic activities. The incumbent leads an office, including a Finance & Grants Administrator staff, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Research & Collections (R&C). This position performs key functions for grants and contracts as they relate to the work of R&C, and other academic-related areas.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.
  • Not less than five years of experience in grant accounting.
  • Strong accounting background.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Experience managing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Matches expertise in research, collections, and/or community science to funding opportunities, and assists staff in preparing and submitting compliant applications to support research, collection’s activities, community science and mentoring/training programs. This task includes continuous scanning of centralized opportunity notices (e.g., keyword-filtered feeds from grants.gov and foundation center online) as well as focused searches and/or strategic counsel as requested.
  • Provides support to award applicants, grantees, the Finance Department, and the executive team for understanding federal policies, procedures, and opportunities in a rapidly shifting federal funding landscape.
  • Provides support for grant proposals including project management, development and review of budgets, negotiation of sub-recipient agreements (subawards and subcontracts), interdepartmental approvals, and final submission.
  • Advises grantees, and executives, regarding regulatory and compliance issues. Reads and interprets agreements to determine restrictions, prior approval requirements, applicable cost principles, and cost-sharing requirements and strategies.
  • Manages federal compliance including time and effort reporting, Personnel Activity Reports (PARs) forms, desk audits, responsible and ethical research training, etc.
  • Acts as the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR), the primary institutional authority to transmit and execute grant and grant-related contract documents. In that capacity, interacts with agency staff and subcontractors to resolve questions and concerns.
