About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Global Field Medical Training, Excellence & Insights to elevate the performance and capabilities of our Field Medical teams worldwide while driving strategic value through actionable medical insights. This critical role combines therapy area expertise, Field Medical business acumen, advanced training methodologies, and insights leadership to deliver impactful initiatives aligned with Biogen’s medical goals for field-facing employees. In addition to leading Therapeutic Area training for field medical North America Region, this role will develop and implement a worldwide Medical Insights Framework designed to capture, analyze, and interpret real-world medical insights from healthcare professionals and other key stakeholders. By transforming these insights into actionable intelligence, the framework will inform strategic decision-making across Medical Affairs, R&D, and Commercial functions—ultimately enhancing patient outcomes. By integrating training excellence with a robust medical insights capability, this role ensures Field Medical teams are not only equipped with the knowledge and skills to engage effectively but also serve as a strategic intelligence engine for Biogen. The insights framework will enable data-driven decisions, accelerate scientific exchange, and strengthen Biogen’s position as a trusted partner to the healthcare community. The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic and innovative leader with expertise in therapy areas, Field Medical capabilities, and the application of AI and digital technologies to learning and development. You excel in cross-functional collaboration and have a proven track record of designing impactful global training programs that align learning initiatives with business objectives while maintaining compliance and operational excellence. Requirements

  • Advanced Degree in a biological science or related field (Pharm.D., Nurse Practitioner, MS, MSN, Ph.D., or MD) and 10+ years of field medical-related experience at a pharmaceutical company.
  • Extensive Field Medical Expertise: Deep understanding of field medical capabilities and medical business strategies.
  • Training Development and Delivery: Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate impactful training programs using various modalities (e-learning, virtual, in-person).
  • AI and Learning Technologies: Experience leveraging AI-driven tools and technologies to enhance learning outcomes and training efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., Medical, Commercial, Compliance) and external vendors.
  • Medical Insights Framework Development: Expertise in designing and implementing global frameworks for capturing, analyzing, and interpreting real-world medical insights.
  • Ability to standardize processes and tools for insights collection and ensure quality, consistency, and scalability across regions.
  • Strong analytical skills to translate insights into actionable recommendations that inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and cross-functional decision-making.
  • Experience communicating insights-driven impact to senior leadership and demonstrating measurable business value.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute effective field medical U.S. Therapeutic Area training programs leveraging therapeutic area knowledge of products, treatment landscapes, and Field Medical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Medical, Global Learning, Commercial Learning, Regulatory, Compliance) and external vendors to deliver high-impact learning initiatives.
  • Oversee Learning Management System (LMS) operations, including curriculum development, assignment profile management, and reporting to monitor learning effectiveness.
  • Continuously evaluate training outcomes and adapt strategies to meet evolving business needs while ensuring compliance and excellence in delivery.
  • Develop and operationalize a global framework for capturing, analyzing, and interpreting real-world medical insights from field interactions.
  • Establish standardized processes and tools to ensure consistency, quality, and scalability of insights collection across regions.
  • Translate insights into actionable recommendations that inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and cross-functional decision-making.
  • Communicate the value of insights to senior leadership, demonstrating how they drive innovation, optimize resource allocation, and improve patient care.
