About The Position

The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, and executing all external financial reporting processes for Wingstop. This role ensures compliance with SEC reporting requirements while maintaining strong internal controls and governance. The Director will serve as a key technical accounting resource for the organization and partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and Investor Relations to support accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting. This role will also lead initiatives to improve reporting processes, strengthen the control environment, and enhance the scalability of financial reporting as the company continues to grow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA required. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience with SEC reporting for a public company.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and public company disclosure standards.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, including financial statements and disclosures.
  • Experience managing external audits and coordinating with Big Four auditors; prior Big Four experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with technical accounting research, memo documentation, and complex accounting issues.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple deadlines, and communicate complex accounting topics clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and filing of all external financial reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K, ensuring compliance with SEC and Nasdaq requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, disclosures, and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations.
  • Manage the XBRL reporting process, including coordination with external providers and review of tagging prior to SEC filings.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual reporting timelines across Accounting, Tax, Legal, Investor Relations, and external auditors.
  • Serve as the technical accounting expert for the organization, performing research and preparing documentation related to complex accounting matters, new accounting standards, and significant transactions.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memos and disclosure analyses to support key accounting positions and audit requirements.
  • Oversee preparation of materials for the Audit Committee, including analyses related to significant transactions and financial reporting updates.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal control over financial reporting, identifying opportunities to strengthen governance and documentation.
  • Lead coordination with external auditors on quarterly reviews, annual audits, and subsidiary audit requirements.
  • Ensure proper timing and documentation for statutory filings and audit-related deliverables.
  • Manage regulatory notifications and reporting obligations associated with public company requirements.
  • Support treasury-related reporting activities, including dividend notifications, coordination with Nasdaq and Computershare, and oversight of recurring financial transactions.
  • Oversee administration and access controls for key financial systems and platforms used in reporting and treasury functions.
  • Partner with Finance and Tax teams on reporting matters including cash flow forecasting support and tax provision documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting processes, systems, and controls, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.
  • Establish scalable reporting frameworks to support the company’s continued growth as a public company.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop financial reporting team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Tax, Legal, and Investor Relations to ensure alignment on reporting matters and disclosures.
  • Provide oversight and governance of the accounts receivable function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls over revenue-related processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Operations and Finance to monitor receivables, improve cash collection cycles, and address aging or delinquent balances.
  • Support the review of revenue-related accounts, reserves, and disclosures in coordination with the broader accounting team to ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and strengthen controls within the order-to-cash cycle.
