About The Position

The Director, Finance - Controller supports the Vice President of Finance in establishing a strong financial infrastructure and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This role oversees accounting operations, financial planning, and reporting for executive management, the Board, and regulatory agencies. Key responsibilities include coordinating annual statutory and GAAP audits, the 401(k) audit, and partnering with Internal Audit and external auditors to maintain compliance with Model Audit Rule (SOX) and all applicable regulations, including those of the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (DOI) and New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree degree in accounting or finance required
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • 3 years in a leadership role within a health plan or regulated industry.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate financial data to support strategic decision-making and ensure organizational transparency.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (ERP experience preferred; MAS-90 a plus).
  • Deep understanding of statutory and GAAP requirements and ability to maintain adherence to all regulatory standards.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills across clinical, operational, and corporate teams.
  • Highly organized with a bias for action and collaboration.
  • Ability to align financial strategies with organizational goals and drive operational efficiency.
  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State of Pennsylvania

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree degree in accounting or finance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and knowledge management tools (e.g., SharePoint).
  • Experience working within an integrated health system or payer/provider organization.
  • Demonstrated success building scalable processes or resource hubs for enterprise initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate annual statutory and GAAP audits with external auditors.
  • Manage quarterly statutory filings with regulatory agencies (e.g., DOI, NJ DOBI).
  • Ensure compliance with Model Audit Rule (SOX) and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee regulatory financial examinations and collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) on ORSA reporting.
  • Lead monthly financial close processes for multiple lines of business.
  • Oversee preparation of the Annual Operating Plan/Budget and monthly budget variance reporting.
  • Manage General Accounting, Financial Reporting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions.
  • Drive implementation of new or enhanced financial systems.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to management, the Board, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in Financial and Investment Committee and Audit Committee meetings.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage departmental business plans, control expenses, and optimize profitability.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to enhance team capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
