Position Overview Vantage Data Centers is looking for a Director, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). In this executive leadership role, you will be responsible for setting the strategic vision and direction for the health and safety of a large-scale data center development in Shackelford County, Texas. Acting as Vantage Data Centers senior EHS authority for all white space activities. The role has primary responsibility for the full white space scope (data halls, MEP systems, OFCI equipment installation, testing, and commissioning). This position represents Vantage Data Centers in overseeing EHS performance across a retained General Contractor (GC), OFCI vendors, commissioning agents, and specialty trade partners. The Director will ensure consistent EHS standards, alignment, and accountability across all parties while driving a proactive zero-incident culture. You will champion a proactive safety culture, ensure enterprise-wide compliance, and drive continuous improvement across all EHS domains. This role requires close collaboration with senior leaders across construction, operations, compliance, legal, HR, and security to embed safety into every aspect of our business. You will lead a high-performing team of EHS professionals, providing mentorship and strategic oversight to ensure consistent execution of safety programs. As Vantage continues to scale globally, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing risk mitigation strategies that align with our growth and innovation goals. This role demands a visionary leader with a strong focus on strategic execution, data-driven decision-making, and global harmonization of EHS practices. The role requires autonomy and oversight of processes including, but not limited to: Leadership and Strategy Develop and govern an EHS strategy for white space construction and commissioning activities across the data center program. Translate Vantage EHS strategy into site-level execution plans, procedures, and performance expectations. Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing EHS team supporting white space construction and commissioning. Serve as the senior EHS authority for all white space-related activities on site ensuring consistent application of standards across GC, OFCI vendors, and trade partners. White Space Construction and Commissioning Provide EHS oversight for data hall construction, critical MEP systems (electrical, mechanical, controls), equipment installation, testing, and commissioning. Ensure safe execution of high-risk activities including energized work, LOTO, confined spaces, pressure testing, rigging/lifting, chemical handling, and commissioning activities. Ensure all EHS requirements are integrated into construction sequencing, work plans, methods of work, and commissioning plans. Compliance & Risk Management Act as Vantage Data Centers EHS representative, providing governance and oversight of GC, OFCI vendors, commissioning agents, and trade partners. Establish clear EHS expectations, interfaces, and accountability between the Vantage Data Centers team, GC, and multiple OFCI and white space vendors. Conduct assurance checks and ensure enforcement of contractor and vendor EHS plans, permits, and work plans for white space work. Coordinate EHS requirements across parallel workstreams led by multiple OFCI vendors and trade partners. Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and track the effective implementation of corrective and preventative actions. Report EHS performance metrics, trends, and risks to Vantage Data Centers leadership and executive stakeholders. Essential Job Functions Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for EHS programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety management systems, training, and risk mitigation strategies. Lead global audits and assessments to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement. Establish and maintain enterprise-wide safety performance metrics and reporting systems. Advise executive leadership on EHS risks, trends, and strategic initiatives. Drive integration of EHS into business continuity, emergency response, and operational planning. Serve as the senior-most EHS authority, representing Vantage in regulatory, industry, and customer engagements. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning across all levels of the organization. Lead cross-functional initiatives to address systemic risks and implement sustainable solutions. Duties Report to the Senior Director of EHS and serve as the executive point of contact for global EHS strategy and execution. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of EHS professionals, ensuring consistency and excellence in program delivery. Own the global EHS roadmap and lead the execution of strategic initiatives across all regions. Oversee complex risk assessments and ensure implementation of enterprise-level mitigation strategies. Lead incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and systemic corrective actions. Develop and deliver executive-level training and communications to support EHS initiatives. Monitor regulatory landscapes and ensure proactive compliance strategies. Synthesize safety data and present actionable insights to the executive team and board-level stakeholders. Collaborate with global leaders to implement scalable, harmonized EHS solutions across the portfolio. Champion innovation in EHS technologies, analytics, and best practices. Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • A Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related science/engineering discipline with coursework in risk management or safety is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data center construction with strong focus on white space delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience leading EHS programs on large-scale or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Proven ability to drive cultural transformation, influence senior stakeholders, and implement innovative risk control strategies at scale.
  • Travel required is expected to be up to 10% but may increase over time as the business evolves.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • NEBOSH (Construction or General Certificate / Diploma or equivalent)
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • Other Internationally recognized EHS certifications as applicable

  • Global experience and a deep understanding of international EHS regulations and standards are highly desirable.
