About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Director provides strategic leadership, oversight, and continuous improvement of the organization’s environmental, health, safety, and emergency preparedness programs. This position plays a critical role in meeting federal, state, and county regulatory requirements. The successful candidate has strong environmental affairs and/or safety experience with a proven record for teamwork and continuous improvement. The position is located in San Jose, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related field or relevant experience.
  • Five years of EHS management experience.
  • Experience in utility, industrial, or related sectors.
  • Hazardous Waste Management certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS systems.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state regulations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Skilled in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety auditing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work and occasional field activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and use required PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, CEQA/NEPA, NPDES, hazardous waste, air/water quality, and safety regulations.
  • Lead risk assessments, hazard analyses, and mitigation planning.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action development.
  • Manage required EHS training programs.
  • Direct internal/external EHS audits and inspections.
  • Maintain EHS performance metrics, dashboards, and regulatory reporting.
  • Oversee waste characterization, hazardous waste disposal, air emissions compliance, stormwater/non-stormwater permits.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, Operations, Water Quality, Legal, and other teams.
  • Manage EHS staff and provide leadership, coaching, and development.
  • Support emergency response and after-hours readiness.
