About The Position

The Director, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is responsible for the organization's Insurable Risk Management function, which includes the strategic design of commercial insurance programs, oversight of high-exposure claims, and managing key broker and carrier relationships. This leader ensures that risk identification and mitigation strategies are embedded into the DNA of every business line from travel and insurance to our roadside emergency fleet. You will serve as the bridge between high-level risk appetite and daily organizational resilience.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Commercial Lines of Insurance: Understanding the mechanics of claims, loss control, and captive insurance within a complex organization.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices and strategies including risk assessments and root cause analyses.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with senior leaders.
  • Strong financial and business acumen.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial models.
  • Influential leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex issues through root cause analysis and other analytical techniques; structure potential solutions; drive to resolution with senior stakeholders.

  • Strong relationship management skills are essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, or Business or combination of education and relevant years of experience.
  • 8 years in Commercial Insurance including 4+ years leading risk teams in a complex, multi-unit environment.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 years Enterprise Risk Management or related fields (Safety, Audit, Business Continuity Planning).
  • ARM, CRM, or CBCP license/certification.

Responsibilities

  • Insurable Risk Management
  • Strategic Insurance Support: Support the insurance placement process by providing high-quality loss data and risk profiles to brokers, specifically focusing on Property, Auto, and Cyber Liability.
  • Insurance Program Design & Cost Management: Develop and maintain the organization’s overall insurance structure, including determining optimal retention levels, deductibles, and limits for all commercial lines of coverage. Perform an annual Total Cost of Risk analysis to drive strategic decisions and cost efficiencies.
  • Claims Oversight & Advocacy: Oversee the management of high exposure, complex claims across Property, Auto, General and all other Commercial Liability, acting as an internal advocate to ensure optimal resolution and minimal financial impact.
  • Broker and Carrier Relationship Management: Manage the relationships and performance of external insurance brokers and carriers, conducting regular reviews and negotiating coverage terms and pricing to secure best-in-class risk transfer solutions.
  • Contractual Risk Transfer: Review and advise on all material contracts, ensuring appropriate indemnity provisions and insurance requirements are in place to effectively transfer risk to third parties (e.g., vendors, partners, and contractors).
  • ERM Framework & GRC Leadership
  • Risk Architecture: Maintain and evolve the MWG ERM framework, which includes program design, governance structure, implementation and operation, ensuring it captures the unique risks of our diverse portfolio (e.g., membership churn, roadside safety hazards, and financial services compliance).
  • GRC Excellence: Lead the "Single Source of Truth" initiative by managing the GRC platform. Automate risk reporting to provide real-time dashboards for the CRO and Executive Leadership.
  • Risk Appetite Integration: Partner with business unit leaders (Travel, Insurance, Automotive) to define specific risk tolerances that align with the Board’s overarching strategy. Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies comply with applicable regulations, controls and strategic imperatives of the organization.
  • Organizational Resiliency & Crisis Readiness
  • Regional Continuity Planning: Direct the development of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) tailored to the geographic challenges of the MWG footprint (e.g., wildfire protocols in California, extreme weather in Alaska/Montana).
  • Incident Response Leadership: Serve as a primary coordinator for the Incident Response Commander during regional disruptions, ensuring seamless member service during catastrophes.
  • Resiliency Training: Design and lead "tabletop" simulation exercises for branch managers and executive staff to test the effectiveness of crisis communication and recovery protocols
