About The Position

The Director of EHS plays a key leadership role in overseeing enterprise-wide EHS compliance, performance, and sustainability initiatives across multiple medical device manufacturing sites. This individual ensures alignment with regulatory standards—including OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO 13485/14001—and leads the strategic integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) priorities. Additionally, the Director is responsible for developing and maintaining the organization’s Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to support operational resilience. As a cross-functional leader, this position partners closely with Operations, Legal, Regulatory, ESG, and site leadership to strengthen safety culture, drive environmental impact reduction, and promote ethical, inclusive, and sustainable business practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in EHS leadership, preferably within the medical device or life sciences industry.
  • Proven track record of aligning EHS programs with corporate ESG and sustainability goals.
  • Experience with Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and regulatory audit readiness.
  • Strategic Thinking – Ability to shape and execute multi-site EHS and ESG strategies aligned with long-term business goals.
  • Regulatory Expertise – Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO 13485/14001, and ESG-related reporting frameworks.
  • Leadership & Influence – Capable of leading cross-functional teams, mentoring EHS staff, and influencing at all organizational levels.
  • Analytical Mindset – Proficient in data interpretation, trend analysis, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Project Management – Skilled in managing large-scale initiatives and site-level engagements concurrently.
  • Communication & Collaboration – Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis – Uses structured methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, CAPA) to address challenges.
  • Sustainability Focus – Understands how to integrate environmental sustainability into EHS strategies.
  • Ethical Judgment & Integrity – Maintains high ethical standards and promotes regulatory transparency.
  • Change Agility – Leads through complexity and adapts programs to meet evolving business and regulatory needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement corporate strategies for EHS compliance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and guide execution of ESG-related initiatives, including sustainability metrics, social responsibility goals, and governance reporting.
  • Partner with corporate ESG and sustainability teams to align data collection and disclosures with frameworks such as SASB, GRI, and CDP.
  • Drive enterprise-wide reductions in environmental impact—focusing on waste, energy, water usage, and GHG emissions.
  • Conduct and oversee site audits, risk assessments, and safety improvement initiatives; ensure timely and effective CAPA implementation.
  • Coach and develop EHS professionals at the site level; build scalable systems for training, performance monitoring, and regulatory tracking.
  • Lead serious incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and preventive action follow-through.
  • Support DEI objectives by promoting health, wellness, and psychological safety in the workplace.
  • Represent the organization during regulatory inspections, internal audits, and corporate compliance reviews.
  • Serve as the central liaison for legal, operations, and sustainability partners on EHS and BCP matters.
  • Design and implement the enterprise Business Continuity Plan, supporting preparedness and operational recovery capabilities.
  • Directly oversee and guide site-level EHS professionals across the organization.
  • Support hiring, development, and performance evaluation of EHS personnel.
  • Set clear objectives and accountability standards to ensure consistent and effective EHS and ESG execution enterprise-wide.
