About The Position

We’re seeking a hands-on Earned Media Director to bring fresh energy and clarity to our earned media approach for Public Health clients. JPA’s Public Health practice focuses on evidence-based, audience‑focused, and culturally relevant communications that advance public health and health equity. In this role, you’ll translate earned media strategy into action—driving day-to-day media relations, while leveraging thought leadership, organic buzz, and influencer amplification to create impactful, scalable engagement. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in execution while exercising strong strategic judgement. You’ll own earned media efforts across Public Health accounts, partner closely with Account, Digital, and Content teams—ensuring earned media is well-coordinated, effective, and tightly integrated into broader client strategies. This position is a full-time, hybrid role reporting to any JPA office (i.e., Boston, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City) 2 days per week and working remotely 3 days per week.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of Earned Media experience, spanning traditional PR and digital earned strategies.
  • Experience within the healthcare industry required, with Public Health and/or Federal Government familiarity strongly preferred.
  • Deep media relations expertise—you know how to land coverage that moves the needle and aligns with client goals.
  • Comfortable working directly with journalists, from initial outreach through interview staffing, spokesperson preparation, and logistics coordination.
  • Entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented, with the confidence to manage up and contribute thoughtfully to strategic discussions.
  • Skilled at working both independently and collaboratively, integrating Earned Media into broader omnichannel campaigns.
  • Excellent communicator and storyteller, able to clearly articulate the role and value of Earned Media across client campaigns.
  • Willing to contribute to new business development efforts as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to extend beyond traditional PR, including driving digital Earned Media efforts such as UGC, influencer collaborations, and organic amplification, would be a great add.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Earned Media strategies that integrate seamlessly with Paid, Social, and Content to drive business and reputational impact.
  • Serve as client’s primary day-to-day media contact, providing effective and strategic media counsel, triaging issues, advising on priorities, and responding with sound judgement.
  • Build and maintain strong media relationships with reporters across top-tier, business, trade, and emerging media outlets, to secure impactful, high-quality coverage.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape, identifying opportunities for creative storytelling and guiding both proactive and reactive media efforts.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on media opportunities, such as (but not limited to) FDA approvals, public health initiatives, and corporate announcements.
  • Support crisis communications as needed, ensuring a steady hand when it matters most.
  • Provide mentorship and strategic guidance to junior team members, helping elevate earned media thinking across the team.

Benefits

  • Paid time off when you need it most: 20+ days PTO, 10 holidays, Sabbatical, bereavement & compassion leave, parental leave, civic duty, volunteer time and year-end office closure.
  • Unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning, internal webinars through JPA’s Elevate Institute, tuition reimbursement, paid professional development, and paid learning and development time.
  • An impressive and comprehensive benefits package that supports you and your family’s physical, mental and financial well-being.
  • Competitive pay and opportunities to advance.
  • The anticipated starting pay for this role is between $130,000 to $150,000 annually, based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, qualifications, and location. You may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses.
