About The Position

The Director of Domestic Transportation and Operations provides strategic leadership and direction for all U.S. transportation operations, including parcel, LTL, and truckload activities. This role sets the vision for network optimization, drives organizational alignment, and ensures the transportation function supports WORLDPAC’s business objectives. The Director leads cross-functional teams, partners with executive leadership, and steers continuous improvement initiatives to deliver a reliable, cost-effective, and innovative domestic transportation network.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in transportation, logistics, or supply chain, including significant experience in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of leading large teams and managing complex, multi-modal transportation networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategic direction, drive organizational change, and deliver business results.
  • Advanced proficiency with TMS/3PL platforms, analytics, and technology adoption.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive partnership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the strategic vision for domestic transportation, ensuring alignment with company goals and growth initiatives.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop senior managers and cross-functional teams responsible for routing, planning, and execution.
  • Establish organizational priorities, resource allocation, and succession planning for the transportation function.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across all transportation teams.
  • Oversee the design and evolution of the transportation network, including long-term planning, capacity management, and technology adoption.
  • Direct the evaluation and selection of Managed Service Providers (MSPs), carriers, and technology platforms.
  • Set performance standards and drive adoption of centralized transportation planning processes.
  • Champion initiatives to maximize cube and weight utilization, minimize cost and service risks, and support business scalability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between transportation, executive leadership, sales, warehouse operations, and external partners.
  • Influence and negotiate strategic carrier relationships, rate structures, and service agreements.
  • Represent transportation in executive forums, business reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Ensure transportation operations meet compliance, safety, and service standards.
  • Oversee the resolution of major exceptions, delays, and service failures, ensuring cross-functional coordination and escalation as needed.
  • Guide the development of models supporting budgeting, forecasting, and exception management.
  • Set the framework for transportation KPIs, analytics, and reporting, ensuring data-driven decision making at all levels.
  • Lead enterprise-wide continuous improvement initiatives targeting cost reduction, service enhancement, and network optimization.
  • Oversee freight audit, billing dispute resolution, and data integrity across TMS/3PL systems.
  • Direct strategic carrier management, including selection, negotiation, and performance management.
  • Ensure carrier technology and capabilities align with WORLDPAC’s long-term strategy.
