About The Position

The Director of Internal Audit for Jefferson Parish is a leadership role responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive internal audit program. This position requires collaboration with various governmental agencies and public officials to ensure compliance with financial and operational standards. The director will oversee audit activities, prepare reports, and provide objective assessments on risk exposures and control issues within the Parish's operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • At least 24 semester hours of accounting coursework.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible audit experience in program performance and financial auditing.
  • At least 3 years of management or advanced level responsibility in audit tasks.
  • Experience in a large-scale diverse organization.
  • Active license as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Valid Louisiana Driver's License or ability to secure one within 10 working days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and a proven track record of successful interactions with public officials.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program of coverage for financial and operational information analysis.
  • Perform internal audit activities according to the annual work plan and special engagements.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on the status and progress of the annual work plan.
  • Issue an annual report on the status of recommendations from completed engagements.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance and Ethics Officer and the Office of Inspector General for compliance audits.
  • Advise the Council and Parish President on risk exposures and control issues.
  • Report findings to the Council, Parish President, and Office of Inspector General with recommendations for improvements.
  • Prepare the annual departmental operating budget and approve expenses.
  • Research governmental processes and procedures as needed.
