About The Position

The Director, Dental & Vision Market Development is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving national success in Unum's Dental and Vision product lines. This individual will serve as the enterprise champion for Dental and Vision, enabling field sales teams through education, competitive insights, and strategic support. The role is not client-facing in a traditional sales and client management capacity, but rather focused on empowering Unum's sales professionals to win and retain business through deep D&V market expertise, training, and collaboration across the Core Market. The Director will also bring thought leadership to the home office, influence product positioning, and contribute to Unum's financial performance by aligning market trends with business strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in group benefits, preferably with a focus on Dental and Vision.
  • Proven experience in sales enablement, market development, or product strategy.
  • Strong understanding of the group benefits landscape and employer purchasing trends.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to influence across levels.
  • Strategic thinker with analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in complex environments.
  • Occasional travel required to support field teams and attend strategic meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training programs to field sales teams on Dental and Vision products, positioning, and cost containment strategies.
  • Support finalist presentations and renewal efforts when strategic expertise is needed.
  • Equip sales professionals with competitive intelligence and winning approaches tailored to market dynamics.
  • Serve as the national subject matter expert and internal champion for Dental and Vision.
  • Analyze and communicate competitive landscape, including product design, network strength, and value propositions.
  • Translate macro and microeconomic trends into actionable insights for sales and product teams.
  • Maintain deep expertise in Unum's Dental and Vision networks to enable the field to effectively position our network.
  • Act as a resource for market-facing activities, providing insights into network strengths, differentiators, and strategic positioning.
  • Partner with home office teams to inform product development, bundling strategies, and go-to-market plans. Be the conduit between brokers, customers, field and home office.
  • Collaborate with field leadership to support acquisition and retention efforts.
  • Influence internal stakeholders with market-facing thought leadership and strategic recommendations.
  • Maintain deep understanding of Unum's bundled product strategy, with emphasis on Dental and Vision.
  • Monitor competitor strengths and weaknesses and provide guidance on how to position Unum effectively position the bundle.
  • Identify benefit value drivers and employer purchasing behaviors that impact product success.
