About The Position

As the Director of Data Management & Business Intelligence, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of EchoStar's enterprise data platform. Your primary objective is to enable analytics, business intelligence, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. You will lead, develop, and grow a team of data engineers and platform specialists responsible for delivering high-quality, governed, and accessible data from our core data platforms. This role will lead data platform enablement for EchoStar's key business units, including DBS, Sling, and our Retail Wireless brands (e.g., Boost), as well as all corporate functions. A key priority will be to ingest and model massive-scale network and operations data from our wireless business, partnering with engineering and business teams to drive optimization and unlock new value. You will be a key partner to the Director of Governance, responsible for implementing and operationalizing the enterprise AI/GenAI governance framework. While the Governance function defines the standards, your team will champion and enforce them, ensuring a high level of data quality, managing data ingestion, and building the foundational datasets that power the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience architecting, building, and maintaining large-scale data platforms, data warehouses, and data management processes.
  • 8+ years of people leadership, with demonstrated passion for unlocking the talents of team members, specifically in data engineering or platform teams.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in data modeling, data architecture, data flows, and data governance principles. Expert-level SQL skills and deep familiarity with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift).
  • BI Familiarity: Strong understanding of BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) from a data-enablement perspective is required.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to translate business strategy into actionable goals.
  • Communication: Highly skilled in communicating and presenting technical information to all levels of the company, including executives.
  • Market Awareness: You stay up-to-date with the latest and evolving data warehousing, data engineering, ETL, and platform best practices and technologies.

  • Industry Experience: Experience in telecommunications, wireless, or other industries with large-scale network, IoT, or time-series data is a significant plus.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, develop, and grow a high-performing team of data engineers and platform specialists responsible for enabling analytics and BI by providing robust, scalable, and trusted data solutions.
  • Platform Enablement: Serve as the primary partner for business leaders and analytics teams across DishTV, Sling, and our Retail Wireless brands (e.g., Boost, GenMobile), translating their needs into data platform requirements. This includes ingesting, processing, and modeling massive-scale network, operations, and customer data to make it accessible for advanced analytics.
  • Platform Architecture: Own the architecture, design, and roadmap of EchoStar's modern data platform, including data warehousing, data lakes, and data integration strategy.
  • Governance Execution: Partner with the central Governance function to implement and champion a data governance foundation. You will be responsible for operationalizing data quality standards, correcting data loading errors, and managing data in alignment with established policies.
  • Data Platform Vision: Define the vision, strategy, and guiding principles for the Data Management and Platform organization, focusing on enablement, scalability, and quality.
  • Best Practices: Establish best-in-class practices for data engineering, data modeling, and platform management, utilizing Agile methodologies.
  • Thought Leadership: Act as a data platform thought leader and a brainstorming partner for stakeholders across the organization, translating complex business problems into data solutions.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with engineering and product teams to continuously seek innovative ways to improve the quality and accessibility of our source system data.
  • Technical Leadership: Research new methodologies, concepts, and industry trends to guide the creation and adoption of new data platforms and technologies.
