The Impact of a Director, Data Governance at Coupa: We are seeking a strategic and operationally-minded Director of Data Governance to lead the strategy, implementation, and management of enterprise-wide data governance to ensure that Coupa's data assets are accurate, secure, compliant, and leveraged to drive massive value for our global customers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Data Governance, Data Management, or Enterprise Architecture.
  • SaaS Expertise: Proven track record in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment.
  • Leadership: Experience building and leading high-performing teams of data analysts and stewards.
  • Toolkit: Proficiency with governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Atlan.
  • Stakeholder Influence: Ability to translate complex data issues into business risks and opportunities for C-suite executives.
  • Technical Literacy: Solid understanding of cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks) and the modern data stacks.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive data governance roadmap, including policies, standards, and roles (Data Stewards/Owners).
  • Data Quality Management: Define "gold standard" metrics for data quality and implement automated monitoring to remediate issues across our platform.
  • Compliance & Privacy: Partner with Legal and Security teams to ensure global compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and evolving AI-related data regulations.
  • Metadata & Lineage: Implement tools for data cataloging and lineage to help technical and business users understand where data comes from and how it's transformed.
  • AI Readiness: Prepare Coupa's data architecture for advanced AI/ML applications by ensuring data is "AI-ready" (labeled, clean, and ethically sourced).
