About The Position

The New York Philharmonic connects with millions of music lovers each season through live concerts in New York and around the world, as well as broadcasts, recordings, and education programs. After returning to a transformed David Geffen Hall in 2022, the Orchestra is acting on a renewed commitment to building on a legacy of more than 180 years, serving as a platform for today’s greatest musical artists and connecting with our communities. Gustavo Dudamel will become the Philharmonic’s Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music and Artistic Director beginning at the start of the 2026-2027 season. The New York Philharmonic is seeking a Director, Culture & Inclusion to help cultivate a workplace grounded in respect, collaboration, and belonging. Serving as a bridge builder across the organization, this role connects leaders, teams, and external facing work to strengthen team dynamics, leadership practices, and the overall employee experience. Balancing strategic vision with hands-on collaboration, the Director advances initiatives that support employee engagement, community connection, and the integration of the Philharmonic’s evolving Social Impact priorities into everyday practice.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in organizational culture, HR, education/community engagement, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated success in culture-building, leadership support and cross functional collaboration.
  • Strong communicator with experience translating strategy into practical, people‑centered initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or relevant certification a plus.
  • Experience working within arts, nonprofit, or educational institutions preferred.
  • Bilingual capability is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives that strengthen a culture of belonging, connection, and mutual respect across the organization, including support for Employee Resource Groups.
  • Partner with leaders and teams to translate organizational values into everyday behaviors and workplace practices.
  • Serve as a thought partner to managers and senior leaders on fostering inclusive, values-aligned teams.
  • Create and facilitate learning experiences that support inclusive leadership, collaboration, and cultural awareness.
  • Partner with People & Culture colleagues to integrate culture and belonging concepts into leadership and employee development initiatives.
  • Partner closely with the Education & Community Engagement team to build relationships with community partners, universities, and peer organizations to support collaboration and inclusive talent pathways.
  • Serve as a resource to externally facing teams on inclusive engagement with artists, audiences, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent the Philharmonic in collaborative partnerships and industry conversations.
  • Support the advancement of the Philharmonic’s Social Impact framework, translating organizational commitments into workplace and community initiatives.
  • Work closely with Director, People Operations to align culture and inclusion efforts with employee experience initiatives.
  • Partner with Orchestra, Development, and Education colleagues to support equitable practices and identify mission-aligned funding opportunities.
