There are many federal and state laws that must be followed to ensure students with exceptionalities can access learning. The director of compliance will ensure that Hamilton County School students, administrators and staff follow and respond to all matters related to compliance.

Requirements

  • Preferred Master’s degree or higher in Exceptional Education; successful work experience working with Exceptional Education or ENL population
  • Minimum of five (5) years previous experience in school administration or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support Executive Director of Special Education in meeting the outcomes aligned to the HCS Strategic plan and the Action Plan for the department
  • Monitors and evaluates, on an ongoing basis, special education curriculum, programs, and student achievement.
  • Evaluates and monitors the implementation of special education program guidelines, district policies and regulations for compliance with state and federal government regulations and laws.
  • Monitors and evaluates the allocation of special education resources.
  • Works directly with the Executive Director and other department leaders to develop budget recommendations and provides expenditure control on budgets for special education.
  • Works directly with the Executive Director to compile, file, and maintain all reports and records with state, local, and federal departments agencies.
  • Trains and supports staff in the proper implementation of the IAIEP self-assessment tool for IEP development
  • Creates, supports, and monitors the needs to provide a robust continuum of services for Hamilton County students
  • The point person for the implementation of the EasyIEP data system
  • Must have an understanding of the federal, state and district law and policy for Exceptional Education
  • Assess the effectiveness of the staffing model and allocate staff using the Hamilton County staffing model
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop a robust continuum of services within Hamilton County based on TN policy and regs
  • Maintains confidentiality and adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law
  • Coordinates and responds to administrative complaints, state complaints, serves as the mediator for due process; Collaborates with the Director of Evaluation and Eligibility
  • Serve on Exceptional Education Leadership Team
  • Must be a problem solver and provide timely response and solutions for kids
  • Must be willing to work across areas with multiple departments
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid, state-issued driver's license.
