Purpose of Position: Responsible for the direction of Humane Colorado’s Community Veterinary Services (CVS) teams. Lead and collaborate on strategic goals while working with the leadership team to creatively meet all CVS needs. Ensure every pet cared for, and every client served, receives optimal care and service.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Work Experience: Experience in the veterinary industry or similar organization which includes five years of experience in management

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the CVS team to ensure the highest level of people care is delivered to staff, volunteers, clients, donors, partners, and vendors.
  • Direct and monitor all aspects of community veterinary services, including urgent care services, vaccine clinics, spay/neuter and healthy pet services.
  • Ensure client experiences reflect the brand, mission and core values.
  • Routinely monitor and assess CVS services and the needs of our community, ensure our resources are being used in the most impactful way, and that we’re meeting our clients, and the needs of their pets, where they are.
  • Work collaboratively with practice managers and veterinarians to ensure effective management of the team, departmental resources, and workflow.
  • Develop, evaluate, and control departmental budgets.
  • Manage and develop an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance, and resources. Determine staff qualifications and competency: recruit, interview, select, hire, train, orient, mentor, evaluate, coach, counsel, discipline, and reward. Establish and monitor staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Create opportunities for all staff to meet their goals for growth, cultivate leadership capacity, and seek out impactful continuing education opportunities.
  • Lead staff meetings, providing direction and inspiration within the context of the mission.
  • Oversight and management of staff veterinarians; work in partnership with lead veterinarians in the provision of training and performance evaluation of the veterinarians and interns.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through statistical analysis, report creation, and presentation. Implement improvements, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective operations.
  • Cultivate collaborative and holistic partnerships with external stakeholders, including CSU Spur operations.
  • Oversee CSU externship program, ensuring student experiences at the veterinary hospital are engaging and enriching. Foster a collaborative relationship with CSU faculty.
  • Maintain highly effective relationships with all other directors across the organization to ensure successful allocation of resources and coordination of activities in support of strategic objectives. Communicate regularly with other directors, VPs, and the CEO when necessary.
  • Work in collaboration with the Development and Communications teams to support fundraising efforts and campaigns, such as providing impact stories and reports resulting in financial support.
  • Ensure program grant compliance and quality of services and evaluations.
  • Participate in donor events, meetings, and tours.
  • Contribute in the development and evaluation of organization-wide strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Remain informed and up to date with relevant industry trends and practices to keep Humane Colorado at the leading edge of community medicine and animal welfare, building toward the future.
  • Serve as a liaison and promote the mission and objectives to the community and other organizations.
