About The Position

The Director of the Centers for Early Childhood Education (CECE) is responsible for the administration and management of the CECE and plans, supervises, and assesses personnel, curricula, and activities of our two preschool classrooms: the Jeanne M. Canelli Child Development Lab (CDL) and Early Childhood Center (ECC) at Framingham State University (FSU). The Director collaborates with the Framingham Public Schools, FSU Education Department, other FSU departments, and other community partners on instructional programs to provide inclusive, high-quality early education and care experiences for preschool-age children according to research-based child developmental theory and best practices.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Director I or II Certification
  • Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Literacy, Special Education, or related field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Teacher License in Early Childhood Education, or the ability to secure DESE licensure
  • Experience teaching in an inclusive setting in the public-school system, private school, or nonprofit organization
  • Experience teaching in a multilingual educational setting
  • At least five years of preschool lead teaching experience in an inclusive setting
  • At least three years of preschool director experience
  • A demonstrated record of collaboration with a variety of formal and informal preschool consortia and organizations

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with or teaching college-level courses in early childhood education or a related field
  • Familiarity with DESE licensure requirements for early childhood and EEC certification requirements for preschool teacher, lead teacher, and director/administration.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the objectives and practices of high-quality early childhood education and FSU policies and procedures are followed and maintained in the CECE
  • Provide for the safety of the preschool and college students participating
  • Supervise the CECE staff and early childhood education pre-practica students, substitute teachers, student interns, work study students, and volunteers
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the curriculum
  • Work alongside classroom teachers following the daily routine and curriculum
  • Work in partnership with the Framingham Public Schools Partnerships for Early Learners (PEL) program and other community partners and organizations
  • Establish and maintain parent communication through newsletters, online parent portal, Parent Advisory Board, family events, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Manage the hiring, onboarding, and submission of background record checks for any CECE employee, pre-practicum student, student employee, intern, or volunteer
  • Plan and implement the annual CECE budget, including payroll, purchases, and collecting and recording tuition for the program
  • Recruit and register preschool children to achieve full enrollment
  • Comply with the MA Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards to maintain state licensure and accreditation and serve as liaison to these organizations for the CECE and University
  • Secure, monitor, and write grants to support the operations of the CECE and community partnerships
  • Maintain and complete paperwork and portfolios for EEC re-licensure and NAEYC re-accreditation, and annual reports
  • Collaborate with College of Education faculty and staff on department coursework, committees, and events
  • Represent the FSU and CECE community, state, and national early childhood organizations and events
