About The Position

The Category Development team is a fast-paced, human-centric team within the A-B Commercial organization. This team draws from a diverse set of data, including secondary sources like Circana, Nielsen & Numerator, as well as leading primary research to stay on top of the dynamic On-Premise channel. The Director will work closely with the rest of the Category Development organization to integrate a category perspective into the commercial strategy in the On-Premise, serving as the category subject matter expert across the On-Premise channel landscape. This role involves partnering with On-Premise Sales leadership and field teams to proactively find opportunities and gaps, synthesize and analyze insights and data, and identify new trends within the channel. The ability to collaborate cross functionally and advocate for category growth will drive strategy, execution, and impact both internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Must be in office 5 days a week
  • Strategy, Insights, Marketing and/or Sales experience – 10+ years
  • Proactive Thinker – can operate independently and find opportunities, ideas, and needs without clear day-to-day guidance
  • Collaborator in a dynamic and fast paced environment – able to form relationships & influence both internally (Commercial, Category, Sales, Marketing) and externally (Customers) up to senior leadership levels
  • Strong Presentation Skills – has experience speaking publicly to and influencing leadership
  • Curious, Analytical, Creative, Strategic – able to translate shopper behavior and attitudes into practical insights to have a concrete impact at retail

Nice To Haves

  • 4 Year bachelor’s degree
  • Strategy, Insights, Marketing and/or Sales experience at a mid to large CPG or consumer research/strategy agency desired
  • Category or sales experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Nielsen data and Numerator preferred

Responsibilities

  • Own category retail relationships and identify new opportunities to influence within all On-Premise channels: Independent Bars and Restaurants, Casual Dining (e.g., Buffalo Wild Wings), Concessionaires (e.g., Delaware North, Gillette Stadium), Hotels, Airports, Casinos, etc.
  • Manage planograms and the reset process for concessionaires and venues.
  • Develop thought-leadership to be applied across the commercial and retail organization. RFP development, Tap/Package Assortment Optimization, Menu Optimization, etc.
  • Develop the On-Premise narratives for our Retail Category Strategy. Why Beer & Hard Beverages in the On-Premise, Segment Stories etc.
  • Partner with data suppliers to identify gaps and opportunities and identify ways to expand our data reach for the channel.
  • Lead and develop a small team of analysts & contractors.
