The Director, Audit Competency and Skill and Development, is accountable for the execution, integration, and ongoing operation of the Internal Audit Competency and Skill and Development group. This role supports the development of IAG skill development, career pathing, competency framework, with a close connection to Internal Audit Standards and best practices. The Director partners closely with the IAG Executive Office, Professional Practices, Colleague Experience Group (CEG), and Audit Leadership to ensure Internal Audit is appropriately staffed, skilled, developed, and positioned to meet regulatory, audit quality, and risk coverage expectations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across talent management, performance management, workforce strategy, or audit/risk-related functions.
  • Proven experience designing and operating enterprise or function-wide talent programs with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Internal Audit, risk management, or regulated financial services environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish governance, controls, and operating models in complex organizations.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders without direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance, or other second/third-line functions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations impacting audit staffing, skills, and performance (e.g., OCC, FRB, IIA standards).
  • Experience responding to QA, regulatory, or external assessment findings related to talent or audit effectiveness

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and oversee the end-to-end Audit Competency and Skill Development operating model, including clear roles, responsibilities, competencies, skills, decision rights, and governance forums.
  • Serve as the central point of accountability for integrating decentralized talent processes into a cohesive program.
  • Ensure alignment between talent strategy, audit strategy, and regulatory expectations.
  • Support consistent application of the IAG competency framework
  • Monitor Audit Specific skill development or action plans; identify risks, delays, or gaps and coordinate remediation.
  • Define, document, and maintain talent-related controls, procedures, and governance artifacts (e.g., RCMs, policy updates, operating procedures).
  • Ensure talent and performance processes meet QA reviews, regulatory exams, and third-party assessment expectations.
  • Track remediation of talent-related findings and recommendations.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CAE, IAG Executive Office, and Audit Leadership on talent and performance risks.
  • Coordinate across CEG, Professional Practices, and portfolio leadership to ensure consistent execution and accountability.
  • Prepare and deliver talent-related insights for senior management and committee-level reporting.
