About The Position

Oversee the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) regulatory/certification requirements and direct policies and procedures related to all accreditation, AAP requirements, and quality standards impacting the AAP continuing medical education/continuing professional development (CME/CPD) program. Direct the joint providership submission process. Manage the annual AAP Education Award process and staff the Committee on Continuing Medical Education (COCME) AAP Education Award Subcommittee. Develop and implement activities that enhance the AAP CME program. Oversee the AAP credit application process and the annual CME/CPD Award.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, communication, or other relevant discipline required.
  • At least six years’ related experience managing accreditation systems for CME or adult continuing education programs required, preferably in a non-profit or professional association environment.
  • Experience with ACCME Accreditation Criteria and Standards for Commercial Support and AMA PRA standards and policies and supervising staff or serving as a team lead required.
  • Experience with professional practice gap identification, needs assessment, evaluation and outcomes measurement, educational design, faculty development, and educational research are essential.
  • Excellent leadership, diplomacy, critical thinking, interpersonal, problem solving, written/verbal communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Must pay close attention to detail and be able to take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously, manage a heavy workload, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected.
  • Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.

  • Master’s degree in adult education or related discipline preferred.
  • Experience with databases, web maintenance software (e.g., SharePoint), ADAMS, and Adobe Pro strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct AAP policies and procedures related to the ACCME Essential Areas and Their Elements, Updated Criteria, Standards for Commercial Support, and ACCME policies, the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award program, American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) 2 program, and other regulatory requirements impacting the AAP CME/CPD program.
  • Direct appropriate staff to ensure all AAP CME activity files include the necessary documentation for compliance and conduct periodic file audits.
  • Oversee the preparation of the ACCME self-study, develop the performance in practice activity files, and direct all other tasks associated with the ACCME reaccreditation process.
  • Oversee the direct and joint providership system for both internal activities and activities developed by AAP districts and chapters to ensure full compliance with ACCME, AMA PRA, MOC 2, and other regulatory requirements, as well as meet AAP CME quality standards.
  • Supervise and provide strategic oversight for the CME/CPD Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosure program and collaborate with appropriate AAP staff to achieve a streamlined and member-centered disclosure collection process.
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, and management for all AAP educational content development and delivery across the AAP in conjunction with the department leadership team to meet a diverse set of healthcare professionals’ needs.
  • Develop and manage the delivery of appropriate submission and training materials for AAP staff and member educational leads.
  • Direct the annual AAP Education Award process to include annual review and update of the call for nominations and posting on the AAP website, staff the COCME AAP Education Award Subcommittee, and arrange award logistics.
  • Supervise and mentor assigned staff.
  • Develop and manage assigned budgets and report on variances; monitor performance against budget and assure course correction as needed.
  • Develop and implement internal policies and procedures related to the commercial support of all AAP directly/jointly sponsored CME activities ensuring full compliance with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.
  • Direct the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned CME activities and ensure they fully comply with the ACCME, AMA PRA, and other regulatory requirements, and AAP CME quality standards.
  • Review and approve assessment instruments used for CME and MOC purposes and provide education, assistance, and direction to AAP staff, chapters, districts, and others to achieve this.
  • Enhance the AAP CME program through activities such as the translation of CME research into practice, professional practice gap identification, needs assessment, evaluation and outcomes measurement, educational design, faculty development, application of new technologies, etc.
  • Oversee the AAP credit application process for outside organizations in a manner that ensures that AAP credit is a recognized and highly valued credential.
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancements of CME transcripts for AAP members.
  • Oversee accreditation responsibilities for the California Board of Registered Nurses, ACMPE, the Montana Nurses Association, and the National Association of Social Workers.
  • Serve as the Education Program Coordinator for CAPCE accreditation and manage assigned activities, including serving as the liaison to CAPCE for all accreditation matters and working with the physician medical director and others to accomplish needs assessment; program planning, implementation, and evaluation; and revising and selecting instructional personnel.
