About The Position

At STACK, the Director, Accounting is an essential part of the Finance and Accounting Department. You will be responsible for owning and stabilizing monthly production and maintenance of all general ledger accounting, leading and executing the monthly close process, assisting with financial statement preparation and analysis, technical accounting, process improvement, external audit requests, and serve as a key partner to the VP, Controller. To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent communications skills, strong attention to detail, be exceptionally organized, self-motivated, and a master problem-solver. You should be able to thrive in a fast-paced multitasking environment and easily adapt to change and rapid company growth. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for accounting, customer service (external and internal) and a hands-on ownership mindset.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Public company experience required
  • Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced close environment
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP (CPA preferred)
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-entity and/or high-growth environments
  • Solid understanding of SOX and internal controls
  • Strong hands-on general ledger and month-end close ownership experience
  • Demonstrated adaptability to changing priorities and timelines
  • NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to step in and provide additional lift during peak close periods

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the month-end close process; accountable for accuracy, completeness, and on-time delivery
  • Own close readiness, including pre-close planning, task sequencing, and issue resolution
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Analyze complex accounting transactions; exercise judgment and document conclusions
  • Exercise professional judgment in identifying risks, issues, and escalation items impacting close and financial reporting
  • Prepare monthly internal reporting packages, including variance and flux analysis
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Establish and enforce reconciliation and review standards to ensure accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness
  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 3–6 accounting professionals
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to team members
  • Support technical accounting research and implementation
  • Assist with purchase accounting, acquisition journal entries, and post-transaction integration
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Treasury, Tax, and Operations to drive process efficiency and close discipline
  • Own audit readiness and serve as a key contact for external auditors
  • Ensure ongoing operating effectiveness of SOX and internal controls, including documentation and remediation
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability
  • Communicate accounting impacts, risks, and close status clearly to leadership and key stakeholders
  • Support ad hoc projects and special initiatives as needed
