Position Information: Boone County Family Resources is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Direct Support Specialist in our residential program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Specialist is responsible for: Developing a rapport with residents and cultivating a safe and supportive relationship Assisting individuals with disabilities thriving in their homes by providing support with completing personal hygiene, grooming, cooking, laundry, cleaning, and shopping. Supporting individuals with connecting in the community by assisting with transportation to work, activities, and appointments and providing support as needed during activities at various community locations. Encouraging individuals to achieve their personal goals through the implementation of planned services and working collaboratively with other team members. Work closely with the person served, their plan teams, and supervisors to develop, implement, and monitor/ report progress on individual plan goals Not sure if you qualify? Apply and let’s review!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Ability to obtain a Class E Chauffeurs license
  • Access to a licensed and insured vehicle
  • Demonstrate responsibility and maturity with excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to pass applicable background checks and a pre-employment drug screening
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • May require prolonged periods of standing, bending, or walking

  • Experience providing direct care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
