Direct Support Professional (AM Shift)
About The Position
Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring Direct Support Professionals to join their team. They are looking for compassionate, patient, and dedicated professionals with experience supporting individuals with maladaptive behaviors, or a background as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), or Personal Care Assistant (PCA). The role involves providing essential care and behavioral support to individuals with disabilities. Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) serves citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). They support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs, focusing on a person-centered approach to foster independence and ensure individuals realize their full potential. These positions are considered essential personnel and require working in the event of an emergency or facility need, including different shifts and/or overtime as requested.
Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be dependable, accountable, and reliable
- Must have ability to work a flexible schedule
- Must have ability to work with an integrated team.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have active, valid driver’s license.
- Must have basic computer skills to include the ability to use keyboard, mouse and navigate an Electronic Health Record with minimum assistance after training.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodation, which includes standing, bending, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, providing support during all aspects of daily personal care, and intervening with aggressive behaviors.
- Successful completion of the facility’s Pre-Service training program, which includes CPR, First Aid, medication administration, nutritional management, and physical/behavioral management, is required for continued employment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, Residential Supervisors and/or Supervisors, Administrator on Duty (after hour supervisors) and ID team members.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
- Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals.
- Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, or similar role.
- Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records.
