The Direct Support Professional will assist in the daily care of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. This includes helping with activities of daily living, maintaining a healthy and comfortable living environment, and strengthening daily living needs such as nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, community integration, and socialization skills. The role involves assisting with personal care like bathing, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation, always working to improve self-reliance. Professionals will help set individual goals, track client progress, report significant changes to superiors, and transport individuals to appointments, meetings, and events. They are expected to encourage skill development, foster community integration, and build meaningful relationships to ensure clients feel cared for and included. Adherence to health and safety protocols, assistance with home cleanliness, and participation in continuing education, assigned trainings, and certifications are also required. The Direct Support Professional is expected to be compassionate, patient, and encouraging, serving as a caregiver, cheerleader, and advocate to positively impact many lives.
