Part-time Direct Support Professional (Night Shift)

About The Position

This is an overnight, part-time position with hours between 7:45pm - 7:45am every other Saturday and Sunday, totaling 16 - 24 hours every other week. This role is part of Burton Center's Community Training Home Program (CTH), where the Direct Support Professional (DSP) will be pivotal in creating the best quality of life for up to 4 adults with disabilities and special needs living in the home. The DSP will use person-centered support to implement effective training programs, encourage independence and community engagement, and provide direct care with self-help skills and personal hygiene. The team provides in-depth training on direct support, which may include toileting, changing incontinence briefs, bathing, administering medication, and feeding assistance. DSPs will also encourage a positive and healthy lifestyle by preparing light meals from a designated meal plan, following behavioral support plans, and completing light housework. A Chromebook will be provided for tracking objectives and completing progress reports using the online system, Therap. Thorough in-person and on-the-job training will cover driving Burton Center vehicles, operating wheelchair lifts safely, using therapeutic options, and obtaining Basic Life Support and MedTech certifications.

Requirements

  • SC Driver's License
  • Ability to lift or maneuver up to 50lbs
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to be adaptive, a team player, and advocate for others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the Burton Center mission to develop and discover unlimited potential in adults with disabilities and special needs
  • Coach, train, provide community advocacy, verbal prompts, and hands-on support as needed to promote individuals to have the best quality of life
  • Implement effective training programs using person-centered support
  • Encourage independence and community engagement
  • Provide direct care with self-help skills and personal hygiene, which may include toileting and changing incontinence briefs, bathing, administering medication, feeding assistance, or any individualized care needed
  • Prepare and demonstrate how to prepare light meals from a designated meal plan

  • Drive Burton Center vehicles
  • Operate wheelchair lifts safely
