Direct Support Professional (PM Shift)
About The Position
Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring Direct Support Professionals to join our team. Are you a compassionate, patient, and dedicated professional with experience supporting individuals with maladaptive behaviors? About Us At Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. About the Role These positions are considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested. All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. Training in behavior management and crisis intervention is available. (Preservice training class is 10 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm). Position numbers 00253, 00283, 00153, 00281, 00334, 00158, and 00254 will be filled from this posting. Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be dependable, accountable, and reliable
- Must have ability to work a flexible schedule
- Must have ability to work with an integrated team.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have active, valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities
- Prior experience working with medically fragile individuals.
- Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional, a Certified Nursing Assistant, or similar role.
- Demonstrated experience working with electronic medical records.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and mobility support.
- Utilize behavior management strategies to support individuals exhibiting maladaptive behaviors.
- Provide emotional and behavioral support while promoting independence.
- Implement behavior intervention plans and work collaboratively with a support team.
