About The Position

COMHAR is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. The DSP provides direct services and residential support to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and/or behavioral health needs. This role plays a vital part in promoting each consumer’s dignity, privacy, and independence while assisting with daily living activities, personal care, and community engagement.

Requirements

High School Diploma (or GED)
Current PA Driver's License; satisfactory driving record; eligible to operate program vehicles.
Six months of related experience in an IDD Residential facility or related environment
Able to maintain confidentiality and privacy of all consumer records and information.
Able to acquire working knowledge of COMHAR policies and other applicable regulations
Attention to details to ensure safety for residents and for safely operating program vehicles
Able to work well with individuals with varying emotional and cognitive challenges .
Able to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Able to complete assignments in a timely manner while adhering to COMHAR procedures.

Responsibilities

Support consumers with daily personal hygiene, physical care, and life skills in a respectful and empowering manner.
Conduct and facilitate educational, social, and leisure activities that encourage participation and personal growth.
Promote wellness by encouraging healthy habits, including nutrition and daily living routines.
Assist with meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.
Accompany consumers to medical appointments and assist in obtaining medical care during emergencies.
Administer prescribed medications accurately and in accordance with agency policies.
Safely operate a COMHAR vehicle to transport consumers as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily progress notes and residential logs.
Report any incidents, crises, or unusual occurrences immediately to the Site Manager.
Participate actively in treatment team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and training sessions.
Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all COMHAR policies and procedures.
Maintain a safe and supportive living environment for all residents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
