About The Position

The Direct Care Worker will provide respect and empathy for individuals and their social supports seeking services. Assess individual’s immediate needs by evaluating relevant information, including signs and symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal and determines severity of individual’s substance use disorder.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree required; A Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, consumer/community services, public health, human services, or criminal justice is preferred.
  • Experience working with substance use disorders or related fields.
  • Certificate of completion of the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Recovery Coach Academy, including ethics (or) ability to complete CCAR upon hire.
  • Demonstrates in practice there are multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Familiarity with local services and resources for substance use treatment and/or recovery within Macomb County.
  • Completion of ICHAT check, National and State Sex Offender Registry Check, Verified First, and pass LEIN clearance for the jail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of the Recovery Oriented System of Care and Trauma-Informed Services.

Responsibilities

  • Applies the transtheoretical model of change as an approach.
  • Obtain relevant history and related information from the individual seeking services and other pertinent sources to establish eligibility and appropriateness of services.
  • Provide supervision of individuals seeking services from Engagement Center.
  • Prepare meals for individuals at Engagement Center.
  • Sanitize and clean common areas and individual rooms of people being served daily.
  • Deliver services without bias or judgment to support recovery from substance use.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Macomb County Community Mental Health Engagement Center.
  • Responsible for the identification of treatment referrals/resources within the community appropriate to meeting the needs of the individuals served.
  • Facilitates equitable access to treatment services.
  • Matches client needs with community resources to facilitate positive client outcomes.
  • Completes documentation and reports according to agency and funding source timeframes.
  • Able to apply outcome tools to measure services.
  • Establish and maintain liaison relationships with appropriate agencies regarding intervention and clinical services.
  • Ability to adjust hours of work based on the Engagement Center needs, may include some evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledgeable of national and local substance use and prevention statistics and demonstrates the ability to apply current trends to service delivery.
