About The Position

Responsible for directing the operation and maintenance of MARTA's Office of Bus Maintenance, providing overall management of the repair of the MARTA bus fleet. Directs efforts of subordinate staff to meet or exceed the Office's goals regarding safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsible for plans and programs to maintain the bus maintenance facilities to include the heavy maintenance facility. Oversees the operating and capital budgets for the Office of Bus Maintenance. Responsible for compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations affecting service and facilities. This position has been identified as having responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan. Training requirements must be completed within 3 years of employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Engineering or a related field.
  • Must have at least eight years experience in maintenance and operation of a bus fleet of a significant size.
  • Five years of maintenance program management is required.
  • Must demonstrate ability to develop and execute budgets, training programs, human relations functions, new equipment fielding, and capital program design and execution.
  • Directly related experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and oversees implementation of maintenance plans and programs to support the Authority’s overall goals, objectives, and strategic plan.
  • Provides input as required in support of plans and programs implemented by other activities within the Authority.
  • Overall responsibility for plans, strategies, and programs within the Office of Bus Maintenance that ensure that Bus Operating Facilities are maintained in a condition that supports Bus Transportation activities.
  • Develops technical specifications for purchase and replacement of the Revenue Fleet, goods and services, facility construction and retrofit.
  • Develops and submits operating and capital budgets on a yearly basis.
  • Plans and estimates budget requirements for five to ten years out of current fiscal year.
  • Manages activities within the approved budget.
  • Coordinates the activities of Bus Maintenance with other Departments in support of the Authority’s goals and objectives.
  • Departments include Human Resources, Labor Relations, Engineering and Technology, Finance, External Affairs, and other Offices within Operations.
  • Coordination occurs daily.
  • Makes recommendations and presentations to the Board of Directors on matters pertaining to the Office of Bus Maintenance and its support of the Authority’s goals and objectives.
  • Represents the Authority to Local, State, and Federal governments.
  • Represents the Authority to various Local, State, and National professional organizations and groups.
  • Serves as the central point of contact for all bus related technology.
  • Provides engineering support, plans, schedules, and executes installation of new technology or systems implemented either on the revenue and non-revenue fleets or in the operating garages.
  • Responsible for the execution of environmental programs and policies within the Garages.
  • Maintains facilities to comply with Federal, State, and Local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required.
