Dimensional Engineer - Body Shop

General MotorsFlint, MI

About The Position

The Role: As a Dimensional Engineer at Fint Assembly, you will support the current and long-term dimensional integrity of the T1XX-X programs. Initially focused on either the A-side or B-side of the Body Shop, you will expand your scope as the build progresses, ultimately supporting both sides of the system. As a Dimensional Engineer, you will help establish robust measurement systems, validate tooling and fixtures, and ensure dimensional alignment across Paint and General Assembly (GA). This role is critical not only during launch but also in steady-state production, where you will maintain dimensional stability, support supplier quality, and mentor emerging talent. You will be expected to engage with suppliers to request and validate dimensional data, occasionally traveling to support build events and quality reviews. Your work will directly influence A, B, and C metrics, and contribute to the overall quality of the vehicle.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in automotive manufacturing or dimensional engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to work any shift (this position could be placed onto 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift depending on operational needs).
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T principles and vehicle body build processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and ability to interpret dimensional data.
  • Working knowledge of A, B, C metrics and variation analysis tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and contribute to shared goals.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and Practical Problem Solving (PPS).
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train technical roles
