About The Position

Under direct supervision, digitize and process scans of archival material. Assist in managing Digitization Services workflow and training for students and staff. Attend weekly meetings and present on topics relevant to digitization.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED, and two years of library experience; or sixty hours of college credit and one year of library experience; or twelve hours of graduate coursework in Library and Information Science.
  • Experience using suite of Microsoft Office computer applications including Word and Excel on Mac OS.
  • Experience with direct in-person customer service with the general public.
  • Must exhibit professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience communicating with researchers regarding library or archive procedures and reference requests.
  • Experience coordinating patron requests in a library or archive setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with archival procedures and preservation.
  • Experience in a university academic library or archive and knowledge of library classification schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with researchers and be a liaison with other staff members and departments regarding digitization requests.
  • Communicate with researchers and donors regarding copyright and publication requests and manage the paperwork involved.
  • Assist in managing the digitization workflow including setting priorities, communicating with digitization staff about priorities, and organizing incoming projects.
  • Invoice and track digitization requests.
  • Assist and lead interns and student workers.
  • Assist training for students and staff.
  • Greet, register, and orient patrons to the archives.
  • Answer questions in person and by phone about the Briscoe Centers hours and location.
  • Using a flatbed or overhead scanner, a mounted digital SLR camera, or video and audio capture equipment, digitize rare and fragile library and archival material.
  • Create metadata for all digitized materials.
  • Upload digital objects to computer server.
  • Retrieve digital objects from computer server.
  • Attend weekly meetings and present on topics relevant to digitization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
