About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Digital Solutions Engineer with 2-5 years of experience to support a wide range of technical and operational needs across the organization. This role is ideal for someone who learns quickly, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable jumping into new tools, software, and programming languages. You will help organize and prepare data, streamline processes, build and maintain simple tools that make work easier, and troubleshoot technical issues when something isn’t working as expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Computer Science
  • 2-5 years of experience working with data, technology, problem‑solving tasks, or operational/technical support roles.
  • Intermediate familiarity with Excel, VBA, Python.
  • Fundamental understanding of relational data concepts.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft’s Power Platform, SQL, interacting with APIs/JSON.
  • Comfortable learning new software, tools, and processes with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to listen to pain points of clients and translate them into solutions.
  • Strong problem‑solving instincts; enjoys figuring out how things work and improving them.
  • Attention to detail - notices when numbers, trends, or outputs don’t seem right.
  • Ability to stay organized, manage time, and handle multiple tasks or shifting priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in consulting is preferred but not required.
  • Technical knowledge in environmental compliance and sustainability are a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Help build and update tools used by internal teams and clients - from GIS utilities to small web‑based tools, lightweight applications, or automation scripts.
  • Assist with transitioning, updating, or integrating tools across platforms and environments.
  • Support digital content development, such as turning storyboards into webpages, transforming requirements into functional applications, or turning raw data into clear visualizations.
  • Work with internal teams and clients to understand data gaps, identify what should be collected, and build simple tools (e.g., Excel workbooks with formulas) that make data easier to access and interpret.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, from Excel workflows to SQL database problems to GIS and file upload issues, by reproducing the problem, identifying the cause, and applying a safe, maintainable fix.
  • Run SQL queries, counts, checks, and updates to support data quality efforts, verify assumptions, or prepare datasets for reporting.
  • Create documentation, step‑by‑step instructions, and simple “how‑to” guides for repeatable processes; supporting related training when needed.
  • Participate in discussions with internal teams and clients about technical feasibility, constraints, options, and tradeoffs of solutions (e.g., long‑term maintainability, licensing limits, or best ROI).
