About The Position

DIY Media Group is looking for a digital press operator to join the BookBaby Print Shop team at our Pennsauken, NJ facility. In this role, you will operate our state-of-the-art Xeikon digital color printing presses to produce high-quality books for our independent publishing clients. Candidates with experience working with a digital press (HP Indigo, Canon, Xerox, or other high-quality color press) are preferred, but other machine operator experience and all high-quality candidates are welcome. The best candidates will be passionate about safety, continuous improvement, quality, and supporting independent authors and publishers. Available Shifts We are seeking someone with flexibility to work second shift most of the year, with the ability to switch to third shift during busy periods. Candidates must be comfortable working both schedules as business needs require. 2nd Shift, Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM. During peak production periods (April–May and mid-October through mid-December), the schedule shifts to 3rd Shift (8:00 PM – 3:00 AM, Monday to Thursday). This is a 5-day, 40-hour work week occasional overtime as business requires.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
1-2 years’ experience with a digital press preferred
Safety – Knowledge of and ability to apply basic safety rules and practices
Communication – Must be able to take direction and read/understand written documents in English
Math – Must be able to use and understand simple mathematics, using addition, subtraction, fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of the Standard/Imperial measuring system is required, and knowledge of the metric system is a plus
Understand and use basic measuring instruments required: micrometers, digital calipers, and a tape measure are required
Have reasonable organizational skills and mechanical aptitude
Standing for extended periods of time, up to 100% of your working hours
The work involves extended periods of repetitive motion
Walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, gripping, and carrying up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain the Xeikon digital press
Perform routine quality checks before, during, and after each job
Complete routine preventative (non-mechanical) maintenance and clean-up
Operate an electric pallet jack (training and certification provided by DIY)
Always follow all safety procedures, including lock-out tag-out procedures, any time the equipment is being cleaned or maintained
Participate in Lean and Continuous improvement events and initiatives
