About The Position

LISC is one of the country’s largest community development organizations, helping forge vibrant, resilient communities across America. LISC works with residents and partners to close gaps in health, wealth, and opportunity so that people and places can thrive. We do this by acting as a conduit for grants, loans and equity--and by providing technical assistance and capacity building--to locally rooted organizations that carry out the work in communities. Position Description LISC DC is seeking a multi-skilled individual with a passion for strengthening communities through storytelling, communications, digital media, and related activities. It invites people to apply who have experience working with various populations in the Washington, D.C. region and who possess general expertise in community development, economic development, digital media, communications, and storytelling. The Digital Media Apprentice will successfully promote the mission and value of LISC DC to its funders and community partners. The Digital Media Apprentice reports directly to the Program Officer and collaborates with other staff to develop appropriate strategies for amplifying LISC DC and our partners’ work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban studies, planning, public health, public policy, social work, real estate, community economic development or related fields. Relevant related work experience can also be used as proxy.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in community development. Experience in Prince George’s County or Washington D.C. Preferred.
  • Experience with creative and digital skills such as photography, videography, writing, editing, and graphic design.
  • Highly motivated, solution-oriented individual who is self-directed, and able to successfully work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, set priorities for a challenging workload, and be a positive, solution-oriented professional.
  • Ability to develop and execute plans for community-articulated needs in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Listens, speaks, and writes effectively to build meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders across different cultural, ranges of ability, gender identities, ethnicities and racial backgrounds.
  • Ability to design, apply, and maintain efficient systems for tracking time, tasks, resources, and other information.
  • Must be able to embrace and promote a culture of individual and shared trust and accountability—internally and externally
  • Relationship Building: Develops positive relationships and works well with others from various backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or lead the creation, design, and implementation of a range of projects, programs and initiatives, examples may include project profiles, newsletters, social media posts, and graphics.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of communication strategies to enhance LISC DC’s message and brand image.
  • Capture footage, photos and videos, at events and stakeholder convenings and edit deliverables to be used for social media, earned media, and LISC DC collateral.
  • Help manage LISC DC’s social media accounts, including posting updates and responding to inquiries or comments.
  • Pitch and draft stories and project profiles periodically to communicate the impact of LISC DC’s work
  • Help facilitate and convene meetings, trainings, and peer gatherings to build partners’ capacity and provide access to resources.
  • Represent LISC DC in relevant community forums, conferences, and public events to share insights and promote the organization's mission
  • Assume responsibility for special projects and other assignments, as needed.
  • Support and develop creative approaches for measuring and communicating the local LISC impact in the community as a thought-leader, convener, and investor.
  • To accommodate our stakeholders, periodic evening and weekend work will be required.
  • Interested candidates must be comfortable traveling and working within a wide range of neighborhood and professional settings.
