About The Position

The Digital Content Specialist supports the development and execution of The Huntington’s digital communications across email marketing, exhibition pages, collection pages, campaign landing pages, and other web experiences. Reporting to the Creative Director, this role combines strong execution skills with an interest in digital strategy to support audience engagement across The Huntington’s website and institutional email communications. The Digital Content Specialist produces and maintains priority digital communications—including the weekly institution-wide email newsletter, campaign emails, exhibition and collection pages, and seasonal landing pages—while contributing to the implementation of best practices for digital content structure, audience engagement, and campaign performance. Working closely with the Creative Director, this role translates curatorial, scholarly, and programmatic content into compelling digital storytelling that invites discovery and supports meaningful audience actions such as planning a visit, purchasing tickets, or engaging with exhibitions, collections, and programs. S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. This is a limited-term position, currently budgeted for one year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, marketing, design, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience in digital marketing, digital content production, web publishing, or related roles.
  • Understanding of design principles and brand style guide execution.
  • Experience supporting or executing email campaigns and newsletter production.
  • Experience building or updating web pages or landing pages using a content management system.
  • Familiarity with analytics platforms such as Google Analytics or comparable tools.
  • Experience working with web content management systems and collaborating with technical teams responsible for platform development.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and mobile-first design principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage content accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into clear, accessible digital content for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Collaborative working style with strong interpersonal and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Proactive approach to work, with the ability to identify digital content opportunities and propose ideas independently.
  • Interest in understanding how digital content supports audience engagement and institutional goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in museums, cultural institutions, universities, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Familiarity with SEO (search engine optimization), AEO (answer engine optimization), and digital content optimization.
  • Experience supporting digital engagement for exhibitions, collections, or public programs.
  • Experience working with digital asset management (DAM) systems and metadata workflows, particularly in environments where DAM platforms integrate with web content management systems.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of new digital tools or platforms, including change management and adoption across teams.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Drupal or comparable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of digital campaigns promoting exhibitions, collections, programs, and institutional initiatives.
  • Assist in translating campaign goals into effective web and email content.
  • Contribute to audience segmentation, campaign setup, and content planning for digital communications.
  • Monitor digital content performance and support ongoing optimization efforts.
  • Build and update exhibition pages, collection pages, campaign landing pages, and other web content within the CMS.
  • Format and publish digital content in alignment with established templates, standards, and brand guidelines.
  • Translate curatorial, scholarly, and programmatic content into engaging digital storytelling experiences for public audiences.
  • Apply UX, accessibility, and mobile-first best practices to web content and page development.
  • Monitor page performance and user engagement metrics to inform improvements.
  • Build, schedule, and maintain The Huntington’s weekly institution-wide email newsletter.
  • Support the development and deployment of campaign emails for exhibitions, seasonal initiatives, and institutional priorities.
  • Assist with segmentation, testing, and optimization of email campaigns.
  • Monitor email performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support the execution of institutional digital communications priorities, including exhibition pages, seasonal campaigns, institutional initiatives, and the weekly institution-wide email newsletter.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of templates, content structures, and digital best practices that support consistent digital communications across the institution.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on established digital content standards and support the effective use of approved templates and frameworks.
  • Use and maintain email templates, landing page structures, and digital content standards established by the team.
  • Support documentation and workflow updates related to digital publishing and campaign execution.
  • Partner with the Creative Director and Digital and Technology team to support the evaluation and implementation of digital tools and systems that enhance publishing workflows and campaign effectiveness.
  • Partner with the Creative Director to ensure digital experiences align with institutional brand and design standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Communications and Marketing to support integrated campaign execution and digital storytelling.
  • Coordinate with Digital and Technology staff to support web publishing and technical implementation needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional priorities.
  • Provide backup support to the Web Content Coordinator as needed to ensure continuity of essential web publishing activities.
