About The Position

The Clinical PRN Dietitian is a key member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team and is responsible for providing evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to assigned patient populations. This role collaborates closely with the Dietary Services department and the Inpatient Department to ensure patients' nutritional needs are met and serves as a community resource for nutrition, education and guidance. The Clinical Dietitian also participates in departmental initiatives and team-based managerial functions to support high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in food and nutrition or related field.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Active Dietitian license with the State of Texas.
  • BLS/CPR Certification (upon hire or within 90 days).
  • 1-2 years of clinical experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated administrative, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of adult and geriatric nutrition needs.
  • Knowledge of TJC and Medicare standards relating to nutritional services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical nutrition therapy aligned with each patient's clinical status and medical goals.
  • Consult with patients and families regarding nutritional needs, diet education, and individualized nutrition plans.
  • Collaborate with the Dietary Services team to ensure accurate diet orders and adequate nutrition support.
  • Support patient diet management, including menu modifications, diet clarifications, and special diet planning.
  • Maintain active Registered Dietitian (RD) status and complete all required continuing education.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of dietetics principles, nutrition therapy, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide in-service education and training for Dietary Services staff if necessary.
  • Work with the inpatient multidisciplinary team to plan diets for patients with specialized or complex nutritional needs.
  • Ensure compliance with TJC, Medicare, and hospital standards related to nutrition care.
