About The Position

The primary purpose of the Diet Control Assistant position is to provide infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with quality Food & Nutrition services, operational information; and serves as the liaison between the patient care unit(s) and the Department of Food & Nutrition. Delivers all meals/food items to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in designated patient care unit(s) within specified time frames. Performs in a caring, conscientious and confidential manner toward patients, family members, visitors, colleagues, staff and students. Maintains individual patient care electronic Card files and coordinates interdepartmental communications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
  • At least one (1) or more years of Food Service, Customer Service, and/or hospitality experience required.
  • Ability to read, write speak, and understand English fluently to perform the duties of the position required.
  • Effective verbal and written communications.
  • Customer service and hospitality- oriented.
  • Attention to detail with appropriate follow through.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships within a multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains electronic patient card files.
  • Modifies menu to comply with diet order prescriptions/meal patterns.
  • Formulates patient meal supplements and nourishments.
  • Delivers meals and snacks per policy and procedures.
  • Retrieves patient meal trays per policy and procedure.
  • Utilizes knowledge of growth and development when providing services to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Communicates with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in a manner which demonstrates an understanding of the patient’s developmental and cognitive level.
  • Calculates production requirements for meals, including tallied items.
