The Diesel Technician / Mechanic position involves providing basic, preventive maintenance and systems and electronics diagnosis and repair for diesel and non-diesel vehicles on a scheduled basis, adhering to the company’s Maintenance Excellence Program. The role also includes providing basic emergency road service as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum one-year experience in auto mechanics
  • Basic mechanical ability and understanding of vehicle systems including electrical systems
  • State inspection license (depending upon state)
  • Forklift training if required
  • Completion of required brake certification and some OEM training
  • Ability to provide and follow directions effectively
  • Self-starter with good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and appropriate endorsements; or willingness to obtain them
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Comply with company safe work practices and procedures to reduce hazard exposure
  • Perform timely preventive maintenance of vehicles in compliance with company requirements and division schedules within the framework of Krapf Maintenance Policy
  • Perform oil changes and lubricate chassis
  • Check and replenish vehicle fluids including oil, water, power steering, transmission, differential and washer fluids
  • Inspect tires, belts and hoses and correct problems as needed
  • Inspect steering and alignment components and diagnose problems to facilitate repairs
  • Inspect exhaust system and suspension systems for defects and repair as needed
  • Inspect and service brake systems with supervision
  • Adjust, replace and/or repair lighting components, and replace and repair accessories such as heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers
  • Inspect all occupant safety systems such as seatbelts, wheelchair locks, wheelchair lifts, etc. and make adjustments as needed
  • Provide minor emergency road service as needed
  • Complete daily paperwork as required by assignments
  • Assist with snow and ice removal as needed
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Lead Technician
