About The Position

Western Truck Exchange is rebuilding and growing our service department, and we’re hiring a hands-on Diesel Shop Foreman (Master Diagnostic Lead) with the skills and respect to run the floor. As the Shop Foreman, you’ll be the shop’s technical authority—advanced diagnostics, dispatch/workflow, and quality control—so repairs get done right the first time. You’ll also have support from Service and Parts leadership to remove bottlenecks (parts, approvals, tooling, scheduling) and keep production moving. This role is the communication hub between technicians, advisors, and parts, ensuring repairs are completed properly, efficiently, and safely.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL (or willing to obtain if not currently held) to road test tractors as needed.
  • 5+ years of medium/heavy-duty truck repair experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge and diagnostic problem-solving ability.
  • Strong communication and organization skills; ability to lead and support technicians.
  • Ability to road test vehicles as needed to diagnose and verify repairs.
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with OEM and warranty processes and dealership operations.
  • Comfort driving workflow discipline: clear documentation, daily planning, and real-time floor management.
  • Familiarity with CDK.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diesel engine diagnostics and electrical troubleshooting
  • Triage incoming commercial truck repair work and build the repair plan
  • Assign jobs based on technician skill level and job complexity
  • Coach, support, and assist technicians as needed to get repairs completed correctly
  • Drive first-time-fix accuracy and reduce comebacks
  • Own workflow and daily communication between technicians, service advisors, and parts
  • Run daily production meetings (10–25 minutes)
  • Monitor open repair orders, promised times, and parts availability
  • Walk the floor regularly to remove bottlenecks
  • Adjust priorities in real time to keep production on track
  • Final review and sign-off on repair orders
  • Confirm documentation accuracy and proper road testing when required
  • Enforce a no-comeback mindset
  • Ensure technician notes clearly document root cause and repair performed
  • Coordinate with Parts on warranty and core returns
  • Maintain a safe, and organized shop environment
  • Ensure diagnostic tools and shop equipment accountability
  • Support technician recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Coach and develop Diesel Technician
  • Participate in performance management and staffing decisions (including discipline when needed)
  • Build a high-performing commercial truck repair team that does quality work
  • Utilize modern diagnostic software and AI-assisted diagnostic tools to improve troubleshooting speed and root-cause accuracy
  • Apply strong mechanical judgment and safe repair practices
