About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 1. Analyzes operating tool problems both in the Tool Room and on the production floor. 2. Inspect finished dies (new or repaired) for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. 3. Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; adjust as necessary. 4. Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools. 5. File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. 6. Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools. 7. Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. 8. Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. 9. Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders. 10. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. 11. Responsible for the accuracy of Tool Room inspection equipment such as pin gauges, surface plates, etc. 12. Coordinate shift activities with those of other shifts to ensure proper flow of information 13. Promote safety by: 1. Ensuring the housekeeping in the immediate and surrounding work area is maintained or improved to the highest level possible. 2. Wearing personal protective equipment (eye protection, dust mask and gloves) 14. Ensures Quality products and processes are maintained by: 1. Understanding and supporting both quality policies and the Quality System. 2. Performing work at a level that ensures quality of this position’s work meets or exceeds internal specifications. 3. Identifying and correcting, if possible, any identified quality issues in the department. 4. Participating in system or quality-based training provided by the company or recommended by the company. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE One year certificate from college or technical school; two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.   Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization in English.  MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.  Occasionally, the employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
