Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • Successfully complete a training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
  • Certification from an accredited dialysis program
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • The Dialysis Technician will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse to all assigned patients and maintain a safe patient area.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of a safe and clean work environment
  • Provide safe, effective delivery of patient care in compliance with standards outlined in the facility procedure manual, as well as regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies
  • Provided the direct patient care for ESRD assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to the patient treatment.
  • Information is documented by the technician in the appropriate patient record.
  • Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on Dialysis Flow Sheets
  • Report any significant information or change in patient condition to the R.N.
  • Assist with all emergency operational procedures
  • Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest and respond to emergency situations related to dialysis treatment.
  • Able to safely operate all dialysis-related equipment safely
  • Able to provide minor troubleshooting when necessary
  • Familiarity with all emergency equipment.
  • Recognize and respond to machine alarms.
  • Participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist in patient care plan meetings when appropriate.
  • Acquire information and knowledge in current practice related to dialysis techniques and principles by participating in scheduled in-service classes
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
